The Federal Ministry of Transport is launching the largest funding call to date for charging infrastructure for heavy commercial vehicles: One billion euros is available over a period of four years. We show you how to use place2charge to find the most attractive e-HGV charging locations for your funding application.
With the new funding programme for public charging infrastructure for heavy battery-electric commercial vehicles, the Federal Ministry of Transport is providing a strong incentive to accelerate the nationwide expansion of charging infrastructure for freight transport in Germany. A total of one billion euros is available over four years. This sum is divided between non-public and publicly accessible charging infrastructure.
In the first round of funding, 200 million euros are available, divided across three calls (non-public CIS for SMEs, non-public CIS for businesses, public CIS). Applications for Call C, public e-HGV charging infrastructure, can be submitted from 26/05/2026 to 07/07/2026.
Use place2charge to specifically identify the charging locations with the strongest funding potential
With place2charge, CPOs wishing to submit a funding application for public electric HGV charging infrastructure can identify the most attractive locations and take the most important criteria for the success of the application into account right from the planning stage.
The place2charge area search makes it possible to identify at a glance lorry parking areas that are not yet equipped with electric HGV charging infrastructure but are located on important transport corridors. Using nationwide data on freight traffic flows, CPOs can find optimal locations for electric HGV charging infrastructure. In the next step, forecasts specifically tailored to freight transport locations can be carried out. This means CPOs can see not only which locations are suitable, but also which ones are likely to see the highest utilisation in the future.
This promises efficient use of funding, not only to create a dense network of charging points for electric HGVs, but also to place them at locations that are truly relevant for heavy goods traffic and situated on strategically important routes.
An important criterion for the success of an application is also whether the submitted location lies along the TEN-T core network defined in the AFIR. With place2charge, locations along the TEN-T core network can be identified and verified.

Funding at a glance
The funding for charging infrastructure for heavy goods vehicles is part of the German Federal Government’s Masterplan Charging Infrastructure 2030. Following the first application phase, which runs for public charging infrastructure (Call C) from 26 May 2026 to 7 July 2026, further phases will follow beyond 2026.
In addition to building charging infrastructure, grid connections, battery storage, as well as charging, load, and energy management systems are also eligible for funding.
Applicants can take note of several points to increase the chances of success of their application: Firstly, the funding intensity plays a major role. Applications of up to 500 euros per kW are funded. Funding applications with a lower volume are given preferential treatment. This is the greatest lever for the success of a funding request (70%). Furthermore, the AFIR relevance of a submitted location provides a decisive advantage (20%). A planned pass-through model also offers advantages (10%).
Conditions for successful funding of public electric HGV charging infrastructure (Call C)
- The charging infrastructure must be unreservedly accessible to the public (e.g. at motorway service areas, charging hubs, or large transhipment points).
- Each charging point must have a capacity of at least 100 kW (DC).
- Each charging location must achieve a minimum rated capacity of 1,500 kW. At least one charging point must have a capacity of 350 kW or more.
- A maximum of one application per applicant may be submitted. Multiple locations may be combined in a single application.
- The maximum funding amount per application is five million euros. Associated companies may jointly receive a maximum of 30 million euros in funding.
- The land for the establishment of the charging location must be situated within Germany.
- The electricity for the charging locations must continuously come from renewable sources.
- Prior to submitting an application, a grid connection request must have already been submitted, or a sufficiently dimensioned grid connection must already be in place at the location.
